Use this free shipping documents checklist to see which documents you need before goods move. Choose whether you are importing or exporting, the country and sea or air freight. You get a checklist with a short note on each document. Tick items off as you go, or email yourself a printable PDF.
How to use the checklist
- Choose importing or exporting.
- Choose the United States, United Kingdom, European Union or Australia.
- Choose sea or air.
- Work through the list with your supplier, forwarder or customs broker.
Which documents are needed for every shipment?
Almost every international shipment needs a commercial invoice, a packing list and a transport document: a bill of lading for sea freight or an air waybill for air. Customs filings, licences and certificates depend on the country and the product.
What if my product is regulated?
Food, medicines, chemicals, electronics, children’s products and controlled goods often need extra permits or certificates. Check these before you order, because goods without them can be held or refused.
